Blackberry Garmin GPS to Go

Garmin Mobile has made my day. I have owned a GPS (Magellan) for a couple of years now and really have grown to depend on it. Recently however I moved to Idaho and it doesn’t seem to find locations like it use to. I have been told that I need the upgrade software which has a price around 80 bucks. Wow… 80 bucks! I start looking around and I can buy a whole new GPS for slightly more than that.

The search starts. I “goggle” GPS and notice a reference to software that would work with my 8830. I am intrigued if not already hooked. For $99 Garmin promises to make my trusty 8830 into a full fledged GPS. Seemed to good to be true. What the heck… I downloaded the trial and gave it a try. Folks, It’s the real deal. I can do everything that I was doing with my Magellan. It talks to me. I know what time I should arrive. Connecting through my Blackberry 8830′s GPS and EVDO service I am always connected to the latest maps, etc. without an $80 upgrade.

I had to prove this out. Just so happens that one of my salespeople have a dash mounted Garmin! We did a test. Not only was it as accurate but found locations his didn’t! I’m sold. I would like to tell you there were some glitches, bugs, etc. but to be honest… there were none.

Flawless, great price, and oh by the way did I tell you it has a pedestrian and bicycle mode. Pinch me… I’m in GPS heaven.

As we now know the initial offerings of 4G have only been slightly faster than current 3G speeds. What happened to our 100 Mbps wireless pipes? There could be a financial not technical reason for this. Carriers are doing what they can, after spending billions of dollars building out their 3G networks, to balance profits. With their slim margins they will stretch the 3G offerings out as long as possible. For example AT&T will probably delay its launch date as they continue to enhance their 3G network and T-Mobile hasn’t yet announced a 4G offering optimizing their current investments in HSPA+. HSPA+ is an easier roll out than 4G, because it’s overlaid over T-Mobile’s existing 3G footprint. It also gets competitive speeds; its 21Mbps is three times what you’re used to from current 3G technologies. The good news however is that 4G technology is continuing to move forward with Sprint and soon Verizon as the forerunners. Technology that will be what was promised originally… in theory. Here’s a woman, not married, very plain looking, and almost 48 years old auditioning for a top spot. Typically when you see this happen they turn out to be a total and complete whack job. I believe everyone was on this same page until she opened her mouth. She was fantastic and flawless! Within minutes she turned not only the audience around but millions of viewers as well. Incredible.

How did that happen? Her voice was great… but then there are a lot of great voices that audition. Why this big reaction for Ms Boyle?

She’s the real deal. Life gave her lemons but she persevered. Auditioning with her senior moment, judges eyes rolling, and comments flying she stuck it out. There’s a great lesson here.

No matter what happens to us we can achieve our moment of greatness whatever that means to each of us individually. Shouldn’t that be part of our life experience?

I am sure Susan heard some very disparaging and hurtful things before getting on that stage. Yet she did get on that stage. That’s the key.

What can you do, right now, to get “on that stage”? Is there something that you really want to accomplish? Don’t put it off another minute! People will criticize and tell you it can’t be done. So be it. All you need to do is look at Susan Boyle. What an example and inspiration for all of us. I know she is for me.
